Dogwood Arts Festival

It's April. It's Knoxville. And it's the Dogwood Arts Festival!!! Y'all when I say I LOVE this time of year in Knoxville, the Dogwood Arts Festival is the reason why. For those of you who are not from Knoxville, the story goes that some journalist (I think) was visiting our city back in the 50's and named Knoxville "The Ugliest City in America". Yeah, I don't think he had been many places, but the moniker put the proud Knoxvillians of the 50's up in arms.  A plan was made to remedy this impression and the "Dogwood Arts Festival" was born. Of course I am really shortening all of this info, so please find out more about our beloved Dogwood Arts Festival and History by clicking the link here.    Knoxville has hundreds of thousands of dogwood trees throughout the city and numerous trails where you can view these beautiful flowering trees from the comfort of your own car. My own neighborhood even has a trail running through it to my delight! One of the most beautiful, famous and oldest trails in Knoxville begins in Sequoyah Hills.
I really think driving through Sequoyah during this time of the year is one of the most peaceful and awe inspiring moments of the day.
I literally will drive through at least once a day while the dogwoods are in bloom. It's a fleeting moment of beauty that I truly look forward to every year.
If you are from Knoxville or if you are visiting, you can find more info about the Dogwood Arts Festival 2011 here.
Enjoy the dogwoods! They are a splendor to behold, and in my opinion, they make Knoxville one of the Most BEAUTIFUL cities in America!

Yes....I thought Knoxville was the most beautiful city when I was there onetime during the Dogwood Festival. I never saw so many pink dogwoods also. That was the most spectacular spring I've ever seen. I hope I'll be able to come during that time again sometime.

Love,

Aunt Linda

We drove the dogwood trail last year in the Miata with the top down - it was one of our favorite road trips yet! Absolutely beautiful. I want to take a picnic down to the park there by the river this year. Hope I don't get too busy and forget :) Beautiful pink dogwood by the way.
