Christmas with Family

We celebrated Christmas with a wonderful dinner with Aunt Kelly and Uncle Leif and Leif's Uncle Brian from Norway. It is so comforting to have family so close by to celebrate the holidays with and to enjoy each other's company while making memories. It was a blessed Christmas!

Twas the Night Before Christmas

Since the girls were babies, Howie has been reading the book "Twas the Night Before Christmas" each year before they went to bed on Christmas Eve. Although they are now "big girls," they still love hearing their daddy read them this traditional Christmas Eve bedtime story.

The Nutcracker 2017

Our little ballerina Sophie has worked tirelessly since August learning and practicing the dance from the beginning scenes of the Nutcracker. As one of the "Christmas Party Girls" who come to Clara's house for the holiday festivities, Sophie is part of the entire first act of the Nutcracker. She performed at the Wayne Theater in Waynesboro, VA with the Albemarele Ballet Theater. Both performances were exquisite! I am so very proud of Sophie her hard work in this performance of the Nutcracker.

Decking the Halls!

Christmas is such a beautiful season and so much fun to decorate the home. Over the years we have added to our Christmas decor with German Nutcrackers, ornaments, Nativity sets and other festive decor. This year we invested in a Christmas tree from Baslsam Hill. I was nervous it would not look as realistic as the company promised, but I was pleasantly surprised. Now our home is ready to celebrate the season of Christmas!

Preparing the Home for Thanksgiving

Our family has hosted Thanksgiving dinner for the past five years and we are excited to host again this year. Over the years I have collected something new each year to add to our Thanksgiving table serve ware as well as decor. I always love setting the table and imagining our day together with our family and friends enjoying our meal and time talking and catching up with one another. It has become one of my most favorite holidays.

Halloween 2017

We had a wonderful Halloween night trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. Sophie decided to dress as the Mad Hatter this year, so Howie and I took her cue and dressed as Alice and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Emma-Caroline decided to dress as the quintessential  Halloween Witch.  It was a beautiful cool evening with lots of fun had by all. Happy Halloween!

The White Rabbit, Mad Hatter and Alice wish you a Happy Halloween!

Fall Fun!

My sister Kelly and brother-in-law Leif came up this past weekend from Stafford, Virginia for a visit. We took them out to the local pumpkin patch in order to score the perfect Halloween carving pumpkins. We also enjoyed some time at our local breweries and wineries. It's always fun when Aunt Kelly and Uncle Leif come for a visit!

Our Neighborhood Winery

Living in Crozet, Virginia was a bit of an adjustment for me at first. I was used to living in a city and really have not ever lived in a larger city except when I was a child of 4 and 5 and my family lived on a farm in Livingston, Tennessee. Crozet is a very small town, but it is surrounded by beautiful mountains. There are also many local wineries close by including the one I call our "neighborhood winery" which is located one mile from our home. King Family Vineyard is beautiful and is very generous in sharing their amazing property with their guests. Each Wednesday they have a food truck come to the winery which allows their guest to enjoy after hours and the beautiful sunsets. We like going as a family and with friends. It is truly a treasure and something that I enjoy here in our small town.

Back to School 2017

The girls began the 7th and 5th grades today. It's hard to believe that these girls are both growing up so fast. I think every parent says this, especially at birthdays and on the first day of school. The beginning of the school year has gotten off to a wonderful start. Here's to a fantastic year!
