Paulo Says!

Emma-Caroline and Sophie love having pets to care for. They each help to feed Lucy and Barkley their breakfast and dinner everyday and Emma-Caroline helps me replenish Paulo's food and water each day as well. Emma-Caroline has become especially fond of Paulo and enjoys spending time with him, taking him to her room and placing him in her doll beds so "he can be more comfortable." This little practice is not one in which I readily condone as pets have a proper home, but I do love her enthusiasm and care for her pets. Recently Emma-Caroline has begun asking me what Paulo is saying when he coos and sings for us. At first I told her, 'Oh he is just singing about how happy he is." But that response did not satisfy Emma-Caroline. She just knew he was saying something much more profound. So has begun our conversations with Paulo. Sometimes Paulo helps me parent by "saying" go brush your teeth or it's time for you to go to bed. Who knows, perhaps Emma-Caroline is right and Paulo's coos are more than just singing. Perhaps we have a little Dr. Doolittle right in our mists in Emma-Caroline.
