The actual house that we call {A*very} Cottage Home was built in the 1950's during a era when the area of town we are located in was considered way, way out! Imagine the scene from Back to the Future when Marty McFly goes back to the 1950's and finds the newly constructed entrance way to his neighborhood which at the time was on the outskirts of town. That was our neighborhood. Now we are delightfully located in the center of everything! In the 50's, the homes built in our neighborhood were all the rage offering a tri-level floor plan which allowed for lots of living space on a smaller lot than what was needed for the ranchers that were also being constructed at the time. In a million years I would have NEVER picked a tri-level house to be the place that I called home. But, you know, never say never! This neighborhood has a great history and a great feeling of camaraderie that has continued for over 50 years. The house we live in is actually really awesome and more than meets my desire for a comfy home. I had to alter my feelings about a tri-level home and now I will admit that I really LOVE living in this style house. When we moved into our house in 2010, we did an addition to add a master bedroom and garage. After the addition was completed, I felt our home took on a more mountain cottage look. And since we live in East Tennessee, mountain cottage is now what I term the style of our house. Below is a photo of the Before and After of our current home. I have also included links to our renovation and addition.
