The High Line is an old abandoned New York City railway that was recently revitalized as an elevated green space and walkway for public use. It is actually quite an amazing repurposing of the railway that would have otherwise been torn down. Over the years of non use, wild plants, flora and fauna took over the railway creating a lush wild oasis. The architects who repurposed the High Line took this natural occurrence into consideration in their planning and created an amazing area which highlights the original railway while incorporating wildflowers and a unique perspective of New York City. To read more info about the High Line click here. I think you will find it really interesting. And if you are ever visiting New York, make sure the High Line is one stop you definitely go and see.
Lounging on the High Line.
Walking inside the shops of the High Line. (f 4.2, 1/80, ISO 400) Sharing with Patty at Finding Serendipity. It's sometimes difficult ot get a good shot that is lighted like this one is. I love the way the arch and clock pop and that Howie turned just at the moment I shouted his name for me to capture his face in the light too before he disappeared in the tunnel.
You can sit here and watch the traffic below.
Where you see the wildflowers is where original railway is.
Empire State Building in the distance.
Bird houses with Empire State Building in the distance. Nice little pad for the birds!
Large open green space here between buildings. remember this is all elevated!
What the High Line looked like before the renovation. This is the last section that will be renovated.
