Oh Christmas Tree!

Every year at Christmas time, the Avery House spends an entire day decking the halls with LOTS more than just boughs of holly. However, this year, with the hand injury and our having just received our final storage unit of boxes, our holiday decor has been streamlined to the essentials: Christmas tree, skirt, ornaments, stockings, Nativity, and a few other items that were discovered on top of the mountain of boxes in our garage.
Instead of hours and hours of work that it normally takes us to transform our home into a Christmas extravaganza, we spent just a couple of hours making our new home shine with what is most important to us at Christmas time, the things of tradition that will be passed on to the next generation and cherished for years to come.
Lots of decorations are wonderful and fun and we enjoy them, but it's also nice to just have a simple decor.
More than any decoration, we will cherish the love of our family and friends in our home at Christmas as we celebrate the reason for the wondrous season, the birth of Jesus!
Emma-Caroline and Sophie really enjoyed decorating the tree this year, even though we didn't have all of our ornaments out.
Each ornament was placed in a very special spot!
They both worked diligently to place each ornament. . .
in the perfect spot!
Some of our favorites, Pooh and Piglet,
Smokey and the Gator stew,
Tigger of course,
and the Grinch!
Howie helped to hang ornaments in high places.
Emma-Caroline directed where each ornament should go!
With a boost on Daddy's shoulders, Sophie found the perfect place for the last ornaments!
On the night we decorate the tree, we also read The Elf on the Shelf. This year Emma-Caroline drew her Elf a picture. Sophie and Emma-Caroline could hardly wait to see their elves, Deedle and Jingle.
The Elves did not disappoint. We all found them in our new home sitting on the fire place mantle. After the decorations had been placed, I took the opportunity to take a few pics of our lights at night. This one below caught me by surprise when I found it on my camera. I thought it was kind of cool. I am learning more and more about taking pics in manual setting so it allows me to get pics like this without a flash. I love it! The Christmas Season has begun at The Avery House!

How exciting that you are going to spend your first Christmas in your beautiful, new home :) The tree looks great! I love the pictures, expecially the black &white ones! I hope you guys have a wonderful Christmas season and that your finger heals really fast (I can't believe the accident was that serious). By the way, your girls are just beyond adorable :))
