Fleur-de-Lis

As April prepares to close down shop for the year, I wanted to share these photos of the beautiful iris that are in full bloom right now.
The iris is the official state flower of Tennessee and comes in a beautiful array of colors. I just love the beautiful purpley soft blue of these irises. They are also the inspiration for the  french fleur-de-lis.

My friends Patty and Sarah also captured some very beautiful images of the iris this week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

The Tradition Continues

This morning we awoke just in time to watch Prince William marry Kate Middleton in Westminster Abbey in London.   To say Kate was radiant in her Grace Kelly inspired wedding dress is quite an understatement. She was a sight magnificent to behold and William looked very handsome in his Royal Military attire.
More importantly than the dress William and Kate wore was the look of pure joy they wore upon their faces. They are truly in love.
Thirty years ago I watched William's parents, Charles and Diana marry. I was smitten with the royals as a child and have been smitten ever since. It was to my complete delight that I had the pleasure of watching this royal wedding with Emma-Caroline and Sophie. They oohed and ahhed over the "Princess" and vowed that they too would marry their prince one day. One day they will, whether they be royal or not.
It was a wonderful wedding to behold and I wish the newly wed Prince and Princess much happiness in the future!

Storm

When I snapped this photo, I never knew a few days later my house and neighborhood would look like a bomb went off.
Last night's storms were some of the worst storms I have ever witnessed.

The golf ball and softball sized hail and torrential downpours and rain were unbelievable.
I feel so badly for those who have lost more than just a few broken windows and trees down.
In our neighborhood, we had many trees down pulled up by the roots. One home that I know of had a tree fall right through their house, but they were unhurt. There is widespread loss all over. I especially pray for all of the families who have lost family, friends and homes due to this horrendous weather pattern that swept through the Southeast.
One remaining pane of glass.
Debris.
A lot of of hail damage.
More debris.
Skies the morning after. We really are fortunate that we suffered no major damage to our house and that we are all safe. Please pray for those who have lost everything.

Ironic

One of my favorite stores here in Knoxville is a place named ironically enough, "Ironic. "It is filled to the brim with unique iron works of furniture, decor, and more! If you are ever a visitor to The Avery House in person you will find that we have many pieces from Ironic in our collection.
The great thing I think about the pieces from Ironic is that they compliment your existing decor, they never compete, and the pieces are timeless.
My girls and I truly love visiting Ironic on a regular basis and enjoy chatting with the shop's owner Holly. We also love seeing Sully, Ironic's number 1 bull dog proprietor. Isn't he just the cutest!

Brunch and a Grown Up Egg Hunt

Although it is Tuesday, I still have not completed my coverage of the Easter holiday here at the Avery House.
Our Easter celebrations began of course with a lovely church service where our choir drew tears from the crowd with it's rendition of Handel's Hallelujah.

After church we retreated back to the house to prepare for an amazing brunch with the Taylor Family.
We had enough food for ten families and we are still feasting on the leftovers.

After brunch the children hunted eggs which contained half-melted chocolate after it was all said and done. The temperatures were quite warm for an April day, but still nice.

Later it was the grown-ups turn to hunt eggs.
What could be better than bottles of crown royal, and Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts cards as the golden egg prizes for the grown ups?
We aim to please here at the Avery House! It was defitnitely a great Easter celebration.

Egg Hunt

On Saturday our neighborhood held it's anual Easter Egg Hunt. It was a beautiful day and the girls had so much fun hunting eggs and eating the goodies with their friends. I think we have enough chocolate and candy now to last the rest of the year!
